Zomato acquires food delivery startup RUNNR- Will now opearate independently.

What is zomato? 

Zomato is a food delivery app that provides information and reviews on restaurants, including images of menus where the restaurant does not have its own website.

What about the Runnr independent food delivery?

According to sources,Zomato Media Pvt. Ltd has acquired delivery start-up Runnr as part of a widely expected, all-stock deal that would help the former significantly shore up its food delivery business, while there is severe competition from rapidly-growing rivals such as Swiggy.

In a recent blog post, Zomato founder and CEO Deepinder Goyal has confirmed that the foodtech startup has acquired Bengaluru-based Runnr. Runnr is a B2B online service provider platform for hyperlocal logistics services,respectively. It is expected to reinforce Zomato’s food delivery range.

“We’ve been adding to our Runnr team steadily over the past week; it is already 1,500 strong, and has been growing day by day…Yes, that’s right, we have just signed our long-rumoured acquisition of Runnr,” Goyal said in the blog post.

Runnr founder Kumar would remain CEO and pursue to work on the strategic aim for the start-up with the rest of his team.Goyal stated that , the acquired firm will continue to be run independently by Kumar.

In September 2015, Zomato had taken up a minority stake in Grab (Grab a Grub Services Pvt. Ltd) to support its food delivery business.

The speculations for the deal first emerged in May 2017, Zomato was reported to be in talks with Runnr to optimise its management and arrangement costs for hyperlocal food delivery.
