Founded in 2007, India’s biggest online retail platform Flipkart claims that it has crossed the 100 million registered consumers. Flipkart also claims to be the 1st e-commerce store in India to do so. All these customers are registered through the website, mobile websites and app.
Started as an online book retailer, today Flipkart also claims to provide 40 million products in more than 80 categories. “We would like to thank our 100 million consumers who have been a part of this amazing journey. Flipkart has also seen a range of ups and downs while competing with Amazon India, In July 2016, the company also laid-off 700-1000 underperforming employees when faced destruction in its business. Flipkart also tried to focus on an ‘app-only’ strategy like other websites that drove its desktop consumers to other e-stores. In order to rectify this mistake, the company recently launched a new website called web-app. In August 2016, Flipkart also introduced two new exciting features (‘Fliptech’ and ‘Hobbyhub’) to provide better user experience.
In January 2016, Flipkart also made a significant change in its management team where Binny Bansal, become the CEO of the company, by replacing Sachin Bansal who designated as the Executive Chairman. In April 2016, Flipkart also restrained the discount pricing and put a cap on salary increments. After rapidly acquiring Jabong in July, Flipkart also set up shop in the USA by launched an office in the Bay area.
This month, Flipkart is planning to hire 10,000 temporary employees in order to prepare for the upcoming festivals. Flipkart has announced the date of Big Billion Day shopping festival of 2016 that would be held from October 2-October 6, 2016.
